Chestnuts roasting on an open fire...



...or in a 450 degree oven!  Use a heavy serrated knife to make a small cross cut on the rounded tops (just press down, don't try to slice) and pop them into the oven on a cookie sheet.  Serve in a dish towel!

Cyndi, I've actually never had chestnuts. Do they remind you of walnuts in flavor?

No, not at all...they're very sweet and starchy with a real umami kick rather than the slight bitterness of walnuts.
